On the buses !
Today was the annual East Grinstead Spring Sunday and bus running day, and what better way to spend an a a sunny spring Sunday than cruising though the beautiful English countryside on vintage bus!
The east grinstead bus run is a free event that see a selection of buses from a verity of eras running in, out and around east grinstead and the surrounding areas, there also stalls selling bus related merchandise and of course more bus spotters and long lenses than you can shake a stick at!
But what a friendly bunch they are, we met a lovely couple who was sat behind us on our bus ride and they obviously love being on these old buses, and their enthusiasm was contagious. They told us about all the bus rallies they attend all over the country. They knew so much about the bus and its history and the gentleman said that this was his school bus and it cost a penny for a child’s ticket.
I thought we was on a route master but apparently not this bus was an RT and was a prototype of sorts and actually pre-dated the route master. It was in production both pre and post WW2 and was still in production though the 50’s and 60’s and went out of service in the 1970’s.
We had a really fun day looking at all the buses and can’t wait to do it all again next year!
Check out Country Bus Rallies website for more information on this and other vintage bus rallies.
