Try it Tuesday – microwave cake
This weeks try it Tuesday is in spired by The Mum Zilla and Island Living’s #bloggersbeatingcancer.
Sarah (mum zilla) and Emma (Island living) are running an online Virtual coffee morning this Friday (30th September) at 10:30am over on Twitter to help to raise money for Barts charity and MacMillan – you can donate here. And you can’t have a coffee morning without cake! So this week I made a cake in the microwave! I’m going to be very honest with you it felt beyond wrong but tasted so good!
I found this recipe on Pinterest, as you can imagine there loads and loads on there, but this one by deviant art jumped out at me as being the simplest and there is no need to get the scales out, all you need is a mug, a table spoon and a microwave!
The ingrediant
3 TBSP flour
3 TBSP sugar
1-2 TBSP cocoa powder
a pinch of salt (optional)
a pinch of baking powder (optional)
1 egg
1-2 TBSP of veg oil/butter
2 TBSP of milk or water (optional)
1 splash of vanilla (optional)
you can also add chocolate chips or chopped nuts (I added chocolate chips because you can never have to much chocolate!!!)
To your mug add your dry ingredients and give them a mix. Next add your wet ingrediant, continue to mix. Once it’s all mixed together you can add in your chocolate chips or chopped nuts if your having them
Pop your mug in the microwave for 2.5mins – I know right !!! Just enough time to get yourself a cuppa while the magic happens!
When your microwave pings give it a minute and then remove your mug, grab a spoon, enjoy and don’t forget to join us on Twitter for #BloggersBeatingCancer with @TheMumZilla, @IslandLiving365 and me @sparkly_mummy on Friday 30th September at 10:30am!!!

This looks lovely. I’ve never tried a microwave cake, my brain just wont accept them!
Oh. My. God. I have to try this IMMEDIATELY!! Thank you for sharing, the husband goes mad at me for using every pan and bowl in existence when I cook, so this one will go down a storm when he sees a mug is the worst of the damage! #foodiefriday xx
I have never been a fan of the microwave oven and I only use it to warm up meals. But this cake looks gorgeous. Besides, I love the idea of making a cake in a mug. 🙂 x #foodiefriday
I have tried mug cakes a few times and they have always gone wrong – never look like the ones on Pinterest! More practice must be required! #FoodieFriday
I have heard of these microwave mug cakes before but have never tried one! It sounds yummy and looks so easy to do. Thanks for sharing x

It sounds tasty. I’ve been wanting to try one of these recipes but my husband thinks it will stick too much to the mug and ruin it. Did you find that? #foodiefriday
I have a dishwasher so don’t know about hand washing, but the mug came out squeaky clean !!!
Oh I love a mug cake. Perfect hit of cake when you have none. Will give this recipe a go!
