Dinner in a box with Gousto
When i was asked if I would like to try the Gousto dinner kits i was very excited, what a fab idea everything you need to create either 2 meals for 2 or 1 meal for 4. I went for the 2 meals for 2 option and choose chicken, red pepper and lemongrass curry and a pork, lemongrass and seasame meat balls.
The food arrived in a chilled box all the meat came sealed in a sheeps wool cool bag and the items for the fridge came in a paper bag. It was all well packed, well chilled and all ingreadients are pre-measured so there is very little waste. They also come with easy to follow, step by step recipe cards with clear instructions and photos.
To see just how easy the recipes are I roped sparkly daddy in to cook us diner. He decided to make the chicken red pepper and lemongrass curry.
Having the ingredients already measured meant that the prep needed was minimal so the time it stated on the card (35mins) was the time it actually took!
Although the meat portions were a good size I didn’t realise how small the rices ones were, we used the rice that came for both dishes – oops! (we had 2 measured bags of basmati rice) for this 1 meal. I’m not sure if I’ve been serving to much rice for years or if they were just a little on the stingy size (I’m thinking I’ve been over feeding us for years!)
The smells from the kitchen were amazing and I couldn’t wait to try it, and I wasn’t disappointed. The flavours worked really well and I loved the little touches and tips, like putting the outer layers of the lemongrass in with the rice when cooking – this is definitely something I’ll be doing again!
We really enjoyed all of our gousto dinners (we have now had 2, so thats 4 different meals) I wont be subbing as I’m not sure I can justify £27.49 every 2 weeks for 2 dinners but the good thing about gousto is that you can dip in and out, you dont have to commit to a regular order if you dont want to, you can just order on an ad hock bases which is what we will be doing that’s for sure, I’d rather order from gousto than paying out for a takeaway.
We really enjoyed the fennel crusted pork tenderloin.
All the ingredients were lovely and of a high quality and we were both really impressed.
Fancy trying Gousto for yourself? Use the code TORNADO for £20 off your first 2 boxes.
For the purpose of this review I was sent a free gousto 2 for 2 box. All thoughts and opinions are my own. RRP £27.49
I loved my gousto box, a bit expensive but worth it for a special meal x #foodiefriday
It looks great, but that is quite expensive. I’m sure you could be the ingredients for less. But, I can see why people are willing to pay for the convenience. #foodiefriday
I have heard some really mixed reviews about these, I always fancied giving them a go but think I could do it cheaper myself. The food you have cooked looks very yummy though #FoodieFriday
We tried out Gouto and the dishes were amazing but a little out of our price range for using regularly. #foodiefriday
I find it a little expensive if i’m honest. I love all the food you cooked though. Looks lovely. #foodiefriday
PS: Sorry for the very late comment x
Yes I totally agree about the price but may buy as a treat now and again as its still cheaper and healthier than a takeaway!
