Try it Tuesday – chorizo and chickpeas
So this week we tried chorizo and chickpeas braised in cider, I found the recipe on Pinterest
to make this you will need
cooking oil
500g of cooking chorizo
4 x 400g tins of chickpeas – drained
200ml fresh beef stock
400ml dry cider (plus a little extra to serve – i used a 440ml can)
Large handful of fresh parsley roughly chopped
(I was able to purchase all the ingredients for this recipe from my local Aldi)
I started by chopping the chorizo in to disks and then cooked them in a bit of oil till they started to brown then I added all the chickpeas and stirred them until the chickpeas got coated in the chorizo oil. Next I added the stock and the cider and brought it to the boil before reducing the heat and letting it simmer till the liquid is reduced by at least half. I removed it from the heat and put the last of the cider and the parsley in, gave it one last stir and served it with salad.
It was ok, and very quick and simple but I’m not sure this is a recipe that I will be making again in a hurry, it need something and I’m not sure what that something is. I might have a think and see what I could add to it to give it that umph and maybe just maybe I’ll revisit it in a few months but for us this time not a winning dinner !!!
I love the sound of the chorizo and cider, maybe some rice stirred into cook with it could be nice? #foodiefridays
Hmm, it does sound a good idea but I can see how it might need more. Maybe chilli and paprika? It sounds like it would be good served over rice too. What a great idea to try a new recipe and review how it turns out. #foodiefriday
Oh that’s a shame that it wasn’t quite right. I love chickpeas and chroizo so this sounded really yummy. x #foodiefriday
I love chickpeas but don’t eat meat but hubbie and the boys love chorizo. I think I would have to add onions..don’t they just make every meal tastier! Like the idea of having it with rice too, would be a much tastier risotto! #foodiefriday
Such a shame it didn’t work out! maybe some rice and paprika? Not sure as I’m not a fan of chorizo myself #foodiefriday
Maybe adding chopped tomatoes to make it more like a sauce? Also I agree with the paprika!

I absolutely LOVE chorizo, so this is right up my street! #FoodieFriday
Looks lovely and healthy option. #foodiefriday
This sounds nice, I love chorizo, maybe you needed to eat it with some rice or potatoes and then some green veg? #foodiefriday
I love cider in food but generally, stick to a pork and apple type dish. Shame this didn’t work out, chorizo is awesome #foodiefriday
I’d not thought about putting these ingredients together. I like Aldi products 🙂 #foodiefriday
Never try it but it’s looks delicious:)
